Family dairy producer Schulz Organic Dairy has sold one million bottles of its Milk in Glass. To date, the Schulz Milk in Glass initiative – the company’s returnable and refillable 1L glass bottles – has saved over 40 tonnes of plastic from landfill.

Rhima Australia has supplied the bespoke bottle washing system used by Schulz.

“We are humbled by reaching this massive milestone. A major thank you to all the people who invested in Schulz and in our Milk in Glass bottles, and to those who have purchased it over the last four years,” said Simon Schulz, owner of the company.

“Thank you to all the staff that have filled and washed every single one of our Milk in Glass bottles. And a big thank you to our girls – our herd of happy cows – for producing the beautiful milk to fill these bottles.”

Schulz Organic Dairy’s work to eliminate single-use plastics in the dairy industry began in 2017.

“I trialled glass-bottled milk at our stand at farmers markets, and we accepted returns of these same glass bottles to clean, refill and resell them. In our first week, we sold out within 30 minutes, and the demand just kept growing,” explained Schulz.

In August 2018, Schulz launched a successful campaign through crowdfunding platform Pozible, raising over $106,000 and allowing them to deliver 5000 glass bottles per week in the first year – diverting 7.6 tonnes of plastic from our broken recycling system.

Now, Schulz Organic Dairy’s award-winning glass bottles are available in over 80 sustainably-minded stockists across Victoria.

Over the next year, Schulz Organic Dairy will be undertaking significant upgrades to its factory machines and processes to ensure its next million-bottles milestone is achieved even faster.

Win a year’s supply of milk

To commemorate the milestone, the Schulz is giving away a year’s supply of Schulz Organic Milk in Glass.

Five runner-ups will receive a Schulz Organic Dairy prize pack containing delicious dairy products, merchandise and more.

To enter, customers simply need to purchase any bottle of Schulz Milk in Glass between 23 November and 15 December 2023, and then look for the special sticker, or a handwritten note from Simon Schulz, underneath the bottle collar.
