Devondale's new owner Saputo has announced the return of Long Life Thickened Cream to supermarket shelves on the back of consumer pressure.
The relaunched Devondale product will feature a reclosable lid and a size increase to 250ml which is one standard cup, to make it easier for cooking and baking.
Devondale Long Life Thickened Cream is the only long life cream product which is specifically developed for whipping, according to its maker, and is also valued for its versatility for pouring and as an ingredient for cooking and baking.
The product was discontinued last year, however, following the closure of the factory in Tasmania where it was manufactured.
Saputo says it decided to relaunch the iconic cream following its acquisition of Murray Goulburn’s activities in May this year, due to overwhelming customer sentiment.
“Consumers have taken to social media and contacted us directly to tell us about the unique qualities of this product, including its ability to be whipped,” Saputo said.
“Cooks and bakers of many different products and dishes told us that it was a vital ingredient in their recipes. People living in and visiting remote areas also made clear that it was as an essential staple of their kitchens and pantries.
“We thank everyone that took the trouble to contact us – we have listened to you and hope you enjoy the return of this classic Australian product.”
The relaunched 250ml pack (RRP $2.49) will be available initially in Woolworths, selected independent supermarkets and MG Trading stores nationwide next week.
