Sydney-based Archie Rose Distilling Co. has launched the second batch of its limited release Single Cask Whisky series, with three whiskies representing a range of different styles and flavour profiles.
Following the success of three limited-edition releases in May 2024 for Batch No. 1, the second drop will include cask R638, a Rye Malt released at natural cask strength; cask SM1572, a Single Malt Whisky; and cask SM2361, a Double Smoked Single Malt Whisky Cask.
Each whisky in this series is hand-selected by the distillery team, who are dedicated to seeking out the most exceptional casks from the 40,000 currently produced and housed by Archie Rose.
- Single Cask Whisky Batch No. 2: Rye Malt R638, at natural cask strength
Last year, Archie Rose celebrated the release of their first Single Cask Series at an event held at the Archie Rose Bar & Cellar Door. During that event, guests were provided the opportunity to taste various samples and select their favourite to be included in the next drop of Single Cask Whiskies. Rye Malt R638 is that cask, a quintessential expression of Archie Rose’s award-winning Rye Malt Whisky, released at a natural cask strength level of 70.8%. It provides a rich and complex aroma that yields glace fruits, shortbread biscuit and almond nougat, along with a plate of gingerbread, nutmeg and allspice. This release is a true representation of Archie Rose’s whisky-making endeavours, with only 73 bottles available for consumers to purchase. - Single Cask Whisky Batch No. 2: Single Malt SM1572
This cask is an example of Archie Rose’s signature Single Malt Whisky style, except with a unique character that is found in only the rarest of individual cask expressions. With only 140 bottles available, this whisky was matured for over five years in an exceptional Australian fortified wine (apera) cask and bottled at a robust 50%. It invites aromas of freshly baked pretzels with butter and honey and a complex palate of chocolate praline, peanut brittle and rosewater. - Single Cask Whisky Batch No. 2: Double Smoked Single Malt SM2361
A combination of old world Scottish peated malt and new world Australian stringybark wood-smoked malt brings Double Smoked Single Malt whisky. The result is a bold yet complex cask selected for its outstanding individual character, yielding only 145 bottles at a 50% ABV. This cask celebrates Archie Rose’s commitment to uniquely Australian flavours, offering notes of outback vampire smoke, chocolate and pork crackling tempered by Australian fortified wine.
