South Australian winery, Bird in Hand, has released two new labels – the Tasmanian Series and Tasmanian Reserve Series – as it embarks on a new chapter, leading hospitality offerings at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart.

The debut release includes a lighter style Nouveau Pinot Noir and a crisp dry Riesling as part of the Tasmanian Series along with a rich and full-bodied Pinot Noir from the Reserve Series, each crafted to showcase the terroir and cool-climate expressions defining the island state.

Bird in Hand’s senior winemaker, Sarah Burvill, said the wines reflect the rugged wilderness of Tasmania and its ability to produce wines of exceptional purity and elegance.

“With the inaugural releases, we’ve focused on highlighting the clarity of the fruit and the distinct character of the region, creating wines that capture the unique flavours and complexity of Tasmania’s terroir,” said Burvill.

The range includes:

  • 2024 Tasmanian Series Riesling 750ml: RRP $35
    Crisp green apple, lemon and floral notes with a vibrant lively finish.
  • 2024 Tasmanian Series Nouveau Pinot Noir 750ml: RRP $35
    A light bodied, fruit forward style, with fresh red berries and subtle spice on the palate.
  • 2024 Tasmanian Reserve Series Pinot Noir 750ml: RRP $50
    An elegant expression of black plum, dark cherry and earthy undertones on the palate with fine integrated tannins and a long finish.

The company’s presence at the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart will include an on-site restaurant inspired by the flagship LVN Restaurant in Woodside, Adelaide Hills, scheduled to open in late 2025.

All three limited-release wines will be featured at select hospitality venues of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, with the Riesling and Reserve Series Pinot Noir also available by the glass at LVN Restaurant in Adelaide Hills.

They will also be initially offered to members of Bird in Hand’s Flight Club.

Bird in Hand co-founder, Andrew Nugent, said: “This marks an exciting chapter, bringing our team’s craftsmanship to the outstanding grape growing conditions, winemaking excellence and artistic passion of Tasmania, while preserving our dedication to producing world-class premium wines from the magnificent Adelaide Hills.”
