A specialty chocolate ingredient has been introduced to the Australian market with the launch of Casa del Cacao, offering ceremonial-grade Criollo cacao, sourced from single-origin estates in Costa Rica and Mexico.
The company stated that, unlike commercial cacao, which is heavily processed and diluted, ceremonial cacao is untouched by additives, preserving its natural theobromine and flavonoids – able to support heart health, circulation, cognitive function, and gut health.
Every batch of 100 per cent ceremonial cacao is ethically sourced from sustainable, family-run estates that honour the traditions of cacao cultivation.
Casa del Cacao founder, Casey Castro, said the company is dedicated to bringing sustainably sourced cacao to Australia, honouring the ceremonial traditions that have endured for thousands of years.
“Pure cacao is an awakening – it offers clarity of mind and body, enhances meditation and provides a natural, sustained energy boost,” said Castro.
“Cacao is known as the ‘Nectar of the Gods’ not only for its remarkable physiological benefits, but for the ancestral traditions it carries. We are proud to share this ancient ritual with a new audience.”
The new company currently has two products;
- Costa Rica Single-Origin Criollo Cacao is cultivated within Costa Rica’s jungles, on a family-owned estate that has nurtured cacao for generations. This 100 per cent organic cacao is hand-harvested, sun-dried, and stone-ground following traditional methods that enhance its light chocolate body and dry, complex undertones for a grounding experience.
- Mexico Single-Origin Criollo Cacao originates from the rainforests of Tabasco, Mexico, where Mayan families have cultivated heirloom cacao for centuries, preserving sacred farming and fermentation practices. The result is a deep, velvety cacao, sun-fermented and stone-ground, ideal for ceremonial use and daily rituals.
