Independent family-owned brewery, Coopers, has teamed up with Australian alt-rock band, Ocean Alley, to create a limited-edition brew – Coopers Ocean Alley Ale.

In a first for the brewery, Coopers engaged with the artists during design and development to create a brew encompassing the beer-loving musicians’ attitude. The resulting product was Coopers Ocean Alley Ale, a tropical pale ale that retains Coopers’ distinctive cloudy appearance.

Coopers managing director, Michael Shearer, said the company had worked closely with Ocean Alley over the years, and knows they all enjoy a beer.

“Great music and great beer go hand-in-hand, so we got the guys involved with a new beer that appeals to their love of refreshing tropical ale,” said Shearer.

“The band collaborated with our brewers on flavour profile and hop selection as well as helping to design the packaging featuring a surfing coat of arms. After plenty of tastings, we’ve arrived at an easy drinking beer that captures the true vibes of Ocean Alley.”

The citrus and tropical notes in Coopers Ocean Alley Ale balance subtle malty characters, creating a 3.8% ABV ‘sessionable-style’ beer, intended at social occasions.

“Coopers kindly invited us to partner with them in creating this one-of-a-kind Ocean Alley Ale, and not only are we honoured to be included amongst their tasty range of brews, but also a part of Coopers’ long and rich history,” Ocean Alley said.

“We’re stoked to have now worked with Coopers for many years. We love drinking their beer – and have been for a very long time – so that says a lot. We appreciate working with a fellow independent and Australian-owned team who have supported our music and many charity efforts for all this time.

“Leading up to the release of Ocean Alley Ale, we got a tour of Coopers’ massive brewery in Adelaide, taking us through the process of creating our own drop. In some ways it felt like the backstage of a music festival – all of the ingredients being lovingly and expertly assembled behind closed doors or curtains, only to be thrust onstage for the cheering crowds to devour and enjoy – and hopefully cheer for more!,” said the band.

Coopers Ocean Alley Ale is now available in 375ml cans and 50 litre kegs, in an extremely limited release run.
