Premium vodka brand, Grey Goose, has launched its latest limited-edition innovation – Grey Goose Altius.

Drawing inspiration from the high-altitude crystallisation that occurs at glacial temperatures in the French Alps, Altius is filtered at sub-freezing temperatures to yield a smooth vodka using Alpine Spring water and winter wheat from Picardie.

After being blended, Altius is filtered at -24 degrees Celsius, with an aim to achieve a ‘glacially smooth taste and velvety mouthfeel’. The company describes the palate as complex with delicate alpine minerality, soft green apple notes and a unique earthy undertone.

The result is hand-bottled and individually numbered, with packaging featuring the windswept peaks of the mountain range.

Grey Goose master distiller, Francois Thibault, said it was an obvious choice for the team to draw inspiration from one of the most admired earthly wonders in the country.

“For Altius, we worked to develop a liquid with processes reminiscent of the rare phenomena that naturally occurs at the high-altitude temperatures in the Alps to bottle the glacial smoothness that the mountains are admired for,” he said.

As part of the international launch, Altius will be highlighted in Australia at Crown Melbourne’s Le Martini, the world’s first standalone Grey Goose bar. Bartender Giorgio Bargiani has curated three specialty cocktails featuring the spirit – the Altius N5, the Golden Gibson, and the Apricot and Cocoa Vesper.

“For any mixologist imagination, innovation and individuality are key and the martini is the ultimate expression of these elements,” said Bargiani.

“In conceiving this new menu for Le Martini, I wanted to pay tribute to the iconic characters that have played a role in the popularisation of the martini around the world, highlighting signature ingredients, and of course, Grey Goose.

“The result is a trio of martini-style cocktails named after the legendary painting of Bosch to highlight the delightful flavours that the cocktail collection offers,” he said.

Grey Goose Altius will be available exclusively in the world’s best bars, nightclubs and restaurants in 700ml – including in Le Martini at Crown Melbourne, Bar Bambi, Melbourne, and LINA Rooftop in Brisbane. Pricing at the discretion of the venue.
