Spanish winery, Ysios, has launched its latest vintage from northern Spain’s Rioja Alavesa – featuring a white and three reds.

Led by chief winemaker Clara Canals, whose global winemaking experience spans Spain, Argentina, South Africa and Australia, the company states it is committed to crafting elegant, fruit-forward wines that honour its Basque heritage while embracing innovation and sustainability.

Ysios will be one of the brands acquired by Accolade Wine parent company, Australian Wine Holdco Limited, after its acquisition of Pernod Ricard’s Australian wine portfolio is finalised.

“While Alavesa is the smallest of the Rioja subregions, we think it’s also producing the most forward thinking wines of this centuries-old Basque region,” said Canals.

The 2022 Ysios Blanco (RRP $65) is the sole white wine of the collection, drawn from old Viura vines at the highest point of the vineyards. Canals said the relatively poor soils act as an essential aspect of the wine’s freshness and acidity.

The collection also includes three Tempranillo wines, the 2019 Ysios Finca El Nogal Tempranillo for RRP $150, the 2019 Ysios Finca La Naves Tempranillo for RRP $270, and the 2018 Ysios Seleccion Tempranillo for RRP $55.

The latest Ysios range is available in Australia online at vntrnr.co.
