Leading Seychelles spirit brand, Takamaka, has launched its range of premium rums in Australia, in collaboration with Dispatch Imports. Initially available in New South Wales and Victoria, the company plans to launch nationwide later in 2025.
Takamaka was co-founded on the island nation of the Seychelles by brothers Richard and Bernard d’Offay in 2002, who set out to create rums that they and their fellow islanders would enjoy. Today, Takamaka is the number one spirit on the islands and produces a portfolio of premium rums that are enjoyed around the world.
“For us as a business and me personally, I am so excited to be launching in Australia. Not only is it a place which I fell in love with almost 20 years ago but it’s a market which I believe Takamaka will thrive in,” said Bernard d’Offay.
“While a slightly bigger island than our own Seychelles, there is so much that ties our two countries together. It’s taken a while but to have found the right partners, our launch with Dispatch fills me with enthusiasm and can’t wait to get started.”
Based in Sydney, Dispatch manages a range of high-quality international spirits, including Compass Box Scotch Whisky and Muyu Liquors.
Dispatch Imports director, Aaron Shuttleworth, said the label is thrilled to be bringing Takamaka onboard as one of its first brands.
“Takamaka has been making waves globally for a couple of years now, and their approach aligns closely with our own; great quality product that wants to have fun and shake up a tired category, underpinned by strong ESG credentials,” said Shuttleworth.
“We see instant homes in cocktail lists for the ‘Seychelles Series’, and the ‘Le Clos Series’ competes with the best rums in the world on the back bar. We’re excited to showcase Takamaka, The Trois Freres Distillery, and their beautiful home The Seychelles to bartenders and consumers alike.”
The news comes as Takamaka confirms it is now available across four continents, in more than 50 markets, as part of its continued global expansion plan. A successful 2023 saw expansion into 17 new markets, including its first entry into Asia in collaboration, and expansion into Germany, Sweden and Luxembourg in 2024.
