Independent Scotch whisky producer, The GlenAllachie Distillers Company, has launched the annual limited-edition release from peated single malt brand Meikle Tòir – The Turbo 2024 Edition.

Since the distillery’s annual production of six week peated products began in 2018, they have become around 10 per cent of The GlenAllachie’s total output. The company developed the Meikle Tòir brand out of this popularity, using mainland peat from St. Fergus for a sweeter smoke flavour than island peat.

Launched in September last year, the Meikle Tòir brand is the first release by master distiller, Billy Walker, since he took over Speyside-based distillery The GlenAllachie in 2017. The range included The Original, The Sherry One, The Chinquapin and the limited-edition Turbo 2023, all with a five year age statement.

After the success of The Turbo 2023, the company has put forward the 2024 version, made from five American virgin oak casks and four Oloroso hogsheads – producing 2200 bottles.

The Turbo product name is intended to reflect the smoke character from the high phenol level achieved during distillation, which was 70 parts per million at the point of bottling. The extended fermentation period of 160 hours gave the whisky a complex flavour blend, with notes of toasted nuts, salted caramel and dark chocolate truffles.

“We have been thrilled at the reception of Meikle Tòir among the whisky community and beyond over the last ten months. For the team and I, it was essential to begin a peated campaign when we took over the reins at The GlenAllachie and use mainland peat to complement the spirit’s heather honey DNA,” said Walker.

“The Turbo, by its nature, is incredibly limited, but if you can get your hands on it, it’s an opportunity not to be missed. The 2024 Edition is a very moreish dram packed full of sweet campfire smoke, alongside dried fruit and chocolate tones.”

Meikle Tòir The Turbo 2024 Edition is available worldwide at premium distributors, with a UK RRP of £55.99 (around $107 at current exchange rate).
