Beverage distributor, Swift + Moore, has added three rums from Cargo Cult to its distribution portfolio, bringing a taste of the South Pacific to Australian shelves.
Cargo Cult Rums founder, Jonny Croft, said the brand has a story as wonderful as the craft behind them.
“The brand was inspired by a belief from the South Pacific islands that a stream of never-ending abundance will appear from the heavens, if you believe,” said Croft.
“Following the end of WW11, when the US troops left the isolated Pacific islands, their cargo – Coca-Cola, cigarettes, chewing gum, Jeeps, Spam also stopped arriving. On some remote islands, cargo cults formed and prayed to their various deities for a return of the never-ending supply of ‘magical goods’. On some islands cargo cults are still patiently waiting.”
Cargo Cult Navy Strength 100% Pot Still Rum is a 54.5% ABV rum, tropical aged +3 years with no added spices. Produced from hand-cut sugar cane grown in South Pacific’s rich volcanic soil, the product is distilled in pot stills and tropical aged in ex-bourbon casks.
Cargo Cult Dry Spiced Rum is unique in the Spiced category as it has zero sugar added, producing refreshing, balanced drinks. Using tropical aged pot & column still rum from two South Pacific distilleries, it features a delicate balance of all natural spices.
The final product in the range is the Banana Spiced Rum, infused with North Queensland bananas. Perhaps the first premium rum infused with real bananas, the brand states this tropical aged 38% ABV rum is making waves across UK & EU markets.
Swift + Moore CEO, Michael McShane, said the craft behind Cargo Cult Rum is exceptional, a testament to the meticulous care that’s put into its production, from sourcing tropical aged rum and natural spices.
“It’s not lost on us how well Cargo Cult is growing across the UK & EU markets – we tend to keep an eye on those markets for what's next in Australia,” said McShane.
The addition of Cargo Cult’s products to the Swift + Moore portfolio is due to the company’s recent range expansion, bringing in a variety of international brands to its in-house warehouse. This includes French beverage syrups range, 1883.
