Supply chain company Chep Australia and social enterprise Thankyou Group have both found new ways to support people in need.

Chep, for instance, embarked on a plan to contribute to food relief organisation Foodbank - and glean some market insights at the same time.

Chep interviewed a range of food retailers, manufacturers and logistics companies, and it committed to make a donation to Foodbank on behalf of those who agreed to participate.

As a result 8,000 additional meals will be going to people who might otherwise have gone hungry. Last year, Chep also provided $900,000 of in-kind support to Foodbank.

CEO of Foodbank Australia, Jason Hincks, said: “CHEP’s support underpins our operations - without it we wouldn’t be able to get food to where it’s needed most.”

Social enterprise, Thankyou, meanwhile, has announced funding for its first Australian project, The Salvation Army’s Hamodava Cafe in Melbourne’s CBD.

At the cafe, volunteers serve breakfast and espresso coffee to Melbourne’s homeless and disadvantaged. The project “empowers Australians to now change lives closer to home as well as in developing nations”, according to Thankyou.

Thankyou has also launched new 45g bar range, to be sold in 7-Eleven Australia stores nationally. The new bars include: Cranberry & Coconut Bar with Cashews & Dark Choc, Superseed Bar with Chia & Flaxseed, and the two new gluten free bars, Fruit & Nut Bar and Nut & Chia Bar.
