Tea company Dilmah has partnered with The Salvation Army to help Australians in need this holiday season, donating 15 cents from every specially marked pack sold between October and January.
From now until 26 January, shoppers can purchase specially marked packs of Premium Ceylon Black Tea in support of The Salvation Army.
Through this initiative, Dilmah is also donating more than 150,000 cups of tea to the organisation.
Dilmah Chairman Dilhan C. Fernando explains that Dilmah is a business that was founded on family values and kindness, and with cost-of-living pressures prevailing, it recognised that loneliness has been a significant issue faced by an increasing number of Australians.
“Tea has always been a way for people to connect and feel a sense of calm. We hope to inspire Australians to make an act of kindness especially as we enter the season of giving,” said Fernando.
According to the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, the combination of caffeine and L-theanine in Ceylon black tea leads to a state of calm and awareness, helping to ease anxiety and relax brain activity.
The Salvation Army’s head of community engagement major Brad Watson said the Salvation Army was seeing an even greater demand from community members to feel connected and seek the support they need.
“When someone comes to one of our centres, a humble cup of tea is all it can take for people to know we care about them and brighter days are ahead. Having access to tea supplies and financial resources enables us to provide that first step towards providing a pathway to hope,” said Watson.
Specially marked packs of Premium Ceylon Tea (100 pack) are currently available nationally at all major supermarkets including Woolworths, Coles and IGA.
