John West Australia has sought to boost transparency of its canned fish products with a new traceability capability that shows consumers exactly where their tuna of salmon is caught.

The Simplot-owned company says the initiative was developed in response to research it conducted that revealed Australians wanted more information on sustainability and country of origin on their canned fish products.

Using a new online tool called Trace Your Fish, consumers can now trace where their John West seafood comes from.

They enter a unique code on John West tuna and salmon cans which provides detailed information about the product, including the species, the fishing area, the fishing method and the cannery that processed it.
