The Australian company Made By Cow, which launched the world’s first cold pressed raw milk in August 2019, has gone into voluntary administration. KordaMentha has been appointed.
Made By Cow used a patented cold high pressure processing method, which allowed it to circumvent food safety regulations that stipulated milk undergo pasteurisation where it is heated to 72 degrees to destroy harmful bacteria.
Made By Cow got approval from the NSW Food Authority, a process founder Saxon Joye said was “long and exhaustive” and took a couple of years.
The point of difference was that by bottling straight from the farm and then put through the high pressure process meant the milk was just as safe as pasteurised milk but retained the vitamins and enzymes that are destroyed in the heating process.
At the launch, CEO Wade Porter told Food & Drink Business the milk was a “game changer” for the industry and the company a “market mover”.
Porter took to the company’s Instagram account to break the news of the company’s closure.
“We are proud of our incredible journey and to have created a truly innovative product that was enjoyed by thousands of loyal customers. In recent years we have been on a strong trajectory with our business growing upwards of 50 per cent year-on-year. In this climate of uncertainty, growing interest rates and inflation, the business has faced economic uncertainty and supply chain challenges and, as a result, the very tough decision has been made to cease production,” Porter said.
The post also thanked distributors and retailers, employees, and customers.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us. We started as an unknown dairy brand trying to do something different and have grown into a brand so many of you love. Thank you for believing in us, the growing demand and love for our milk has made every day of hard work worthwhile.
“Our morning coffee will never be the same, but it’s sure been good while it lasted. Thanks again to you all for supporting up,” Porter said.
