Meal kit company Marley Spoon's first meals featuring v2food’s plant-based meat will reach homes across Australia this week. The partnership marks the first time Aussies can cook v2food products at home.
Marley Spoon customers can now order new plant-based dishes every week and have an exclusive chance to cook and taste the plant-based v2mince, with recipes available on how to substitute v2mince for beef and pork mince across the Marley Spoon menu.
Marley Spoon Australia co-founder Rolf Weber said the company was proud to support the introduction of Australian food innovation to the broader market, where it is helping create a more sustainable supply chain without comprising on flavour or nutrition for customers.
“More and more customers are seeking out vegan and vegetarian options every week. We’re excited to partner with v2food, offering Australians a unique chance to try v2food’s plant-based v2mince in our delicious meals that you can easily prepare and taste at home,” said Weber.
v2food launched in October and has since raised $35 million in funding to expand its R&D efforts, and also secured a factory site in Wodonga, Victoria. It was created by CSIRO’s Main Sequence Ventures and Hungry Jack’s founder, Jack Cowin.
CEO of v2food Nick Hazell said: “Increasing animal meat production to feed a planet growing towards a population of 10 billion people isn’t sustainable. Thankfully, more and more Aussies are looking for ways to reduce their meat consumption but are often reliant on the same recipes they cook week-in-week-out.
“Many of us are looking for ways to increase the variety of things we eat at home while staying healthy. v2food and Marley Spoon are enabling Aussies to experience something new and tasty for the first time.”
The first recipes on the Marley Spoon menu using v2mince include:
- Shaanxi-style v2 plant-based mince with chilli, ginger and coriander;
- v2 plant-based chilli ramen with leek and corn; and
- v2 plant-based summer ragu with tomatoes, peas and parsley.
