FSANZ reviews infant formula standards

The standards that regulate infant formula labelling in Australia are being reviewed by  Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).

The review aims to ensure the code fits with international standards that came into force in 2007.

FSANZ will in particular look at possible changes to the labelling of powder, liquid concentrate or ready to drink formula in terms of the ingredients list and preparation, use and storage instructions.

To this end, FSANZ is seeking industry feedback, with submissions closing on May 17.

The Infant Nutrition Council, which represents the infant formula industry in Australia and New Zealand, recently said that is advocating for more information on labels as it would be useful for parents.

The extra information, the organisation told ABC Rural, would help them understand the differences between products.
