Victoria-based instrumentation and process machines supplier Novasys Group has released a range of allergen test strips and kits.

From Zeulab, Proteon Express strip tests are designed for qualitative detection of milk, egg, gluten and soy allergens in food and working surfaces.

They offer qualitative results (positive/negative) within a few minutes, with neither qualified staff nor laboratory equipment required.

Proteon Elisa allergen testing kits, on the other hand, provide a quantitative determination of the same allergens in food and working surfaces. To perform these tests, a small laboratory and some equipment are required.

Food allergies are a growing public health concern, with allergen laws such as the EU Regulation 1169/2011 in the European Union and the Food Allergen Labelling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 in the US requiring greater transparency throughout the entire food chain.

The checking of raw materials as well as the identification of critical points during food processing are of vital importance to avoid hidden allergens and cross-contamination.

Testing the final product is necessary for correct labelling of pre-packed and unpacked foods. Zeulab offers a range of allergen detection tests for food businesses.

Proteon strips and Elisa kits are tools which can scrutinise suppliers and verify Good Manufacturing Practices in industrial production lines or retail food worktops.
