Global manufacturer of industrial technologies, Minebea Intec, aims to make industrial production more sustainable through its range of scales, checkweighers, and inspection solutions.

Around 17 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from industrial processes, due to resource consumption and waste. Minebea Intec states that its solutions maximise efficiency and conservation of resources through the production chain to reduce this impact.

The company has adopted the climate neutrality by 2025 goal of its parent company MinebeaMitsumi, with binding targets applied to waste reduction, reduction of water consumption, and reduction of CO2 emissions.

Industrial scales

Production in the food industry often involves the exact weighing of ingredients. The static industrial scales from Minebea Intec, such as the bench and floor scales from the Combics and Midrics series, allow for precision weighing with low energy consumption.

Minebea Intec global product manager, Yannick Salzmann, said the company’s weighing solutions guarantee precise and flexible dosing processes, and minimise material losses.

"Our weighing module Novego was specially developed for weighing tanks and process vessels.”

“The hygienic complete solution offers a variety of innovative features for simple and error free installation as well as maximum resistance to lateral forces.”

In addition to dosing processes, Minebea Intec's load cells can also be used to weigh vehicles and carry out fill level checks.

Checkweighers

Once products are on the conveyor belts, Minebea Intec’s dynamic checkweighers help in resource management.

Product manager, Lars-Henrik Bierwirth, said that "with the help of dynamic checkweighers, companies can optimise their production processes, improve material and resource management and increase the accuracy and consistency of production processes."

The Essentus, Synus, Flexus, and EWK models offer a complete product portfolio in this segment, for a product throughput of up to 600 items per minute.

Each check-weigher has a stable mechanical design and a sufficiently high weight to ensure precise high speed weighing results.

Dynamic checkweighers also provide data about the performance of production lines. To make it easier to analyse this data, Minebea Intec offers evaluation tools such as SPC@Enterprise.

The software records the weights of all products and integrates information into a management system to ensure traceability of production. This offers greater food safety and reduces the risk of product recalls.

Inspection solutions

Minebea Intec offers X-ray systems to inspect packaged products, which can detect contaminated products, and enable inline quality checks.

The Dylight and Dymond models were developed for inspecting dry food products, and have a hygienic design and high detection sensitivity, with low power consumption.

Minebea Intec also launched the Dypipe X-ray inspection system for viscous and liquid products just last year.

"The Dypipe is equipped with an innovative sample insertion system that enables real-time inspection," says Liang Mengqi, global product manager at Minebea Intec.

"This means that manufacturing companies can always be sure that their production processes are running smoothly and safely."

Another solution, Minebea Intec’s VisioPointer, uses hyperspectral analysis to inspect seal seams of packaging, able to detect the smallest irregularities.

This ensures product integrity and minimises the risk of contamination from faulty packaging, which also helps to protect against product recalls.

Bierwirth said that the company offers weighing and solutions for the entire production process, from entry-level products to premium solutions.

"In addition to our high-quality and durable devices, we also have intuitive software solutions in our portfolio that simplify formulation processes, reduce raw material losses and have sophisticated safety functions such as track and trace," said Bierwirth.

The durability of the manufactured products ensures a longer product cycle to reduce environmental impact. The service life of the products can be further extended by the long term spare parts service, while the company’s take-back system ensures that the parts are disposed of properly.

Minebea Intec products are distributed in Australia by NWI Weighing, and are available online at nwiweighing.com.au, or in-store in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, or Brisbane.

Packaging News

Mountain Blue, a leader in blueberry genetics, is conducting a paper-based packaging trial on its Eureka blueberry brand, in collaboration with packaging and systems solutions company, Opal, and supermarket retailer Coles Group.

This year’s board election for peak industry body, the Australian Packaging & Processing Machinery Association, saw one of the closest contests in recent years, with the highest voter turnout compared to previous rounds, and a hard-fought campaign from nominees.

As the government trumpets headline inflation figures coming down, the reality for many manufacturing businesses is that government charges themselves are skyrocketing, putting a significant burden on business.
