Spirits company Beam Suntory has launched a Japanese craft gin for the first time in Australia.

The gin, named Roku, will roll out this month in retailers and venues across the country.

Meaning six in Japanese, Roku is themed around the number, from the traditional Japanese botanicals incorporated in the blend, to the bottle cast in a hexagonal shape, and the inclusion of the kanji symbol in the label.

Sakura flower, sakura leaf, yuzu peel, sencha tea, gyokuro tea and sansho pepper are individually distilled by the Japanese artisans of Suntory Spirits in Osaka, Japan.

These flavours are then blended with the eight traditional gin botanicals to create Roku’s flavour.

Roku can be enjoyed on the rocks or as a Japanese Gin & Tonic.

Beam Suntory group marketing manager Demetrius Giouzelis says Australian consumers have a fascination with Japanese spirits, with a large number turning to premium gin.

Beam Suntory will be hosting an immersive tasting experience in Sydney on 25 August to celebrate the launch.

RRP is $64.99 for the craft gin.
