Australia’s oldest brewery, Cascade, has launched a new premium lager in celebration of its 200th anniversary, made exclusively with water from Hobart’s kunyani/Mt Wellington – Cascade Origin.

The first major new Cascade beer to be launched on the mainland in more than a decade, Cascade Origin is brewed with the highest-grade Tasmanian cool-climate hops and locally malted barley, along with 100 per cent crisp mountain water.

Cascade celebrated its 200th birthday earlier this year, with Cascade Brewery launching Cascade Origin to toast two centuries of endurance, innovation and the spirit of Tasmania. Described as “Beer at its Peak”, Origin is a golden lager with a light citrus hop aroma, rounded malt body, light bitterness and a crisp finish at 4.5% ABV.

Cascade Brewery’s head of manufacturing, Brendan Flanagan, said Cascade Origin has been launched to mark Cascade’s 200th birthday, not just in the Apple Isle but in Sydney and Melbourne too.

“Cascade Origin celebrates the crisp water of Hobart’s kunyani/Mt Wellington, the finest Tasmanian ingredients and a commitment to quality. It is meticulously crafted and has that little bit extra to make it really special,” said Flanagan.

“Cascade Origin is made to enjoy with good friends and good food – think kingfish ceviche, lobster rolls and duck bao. The citrus hop and crisp bitterness balance both light and rich flavours. This is a premium beer for special occasions. It may not be for everyone, but that’s why we’re proud to offer a great range of beers for almost every taste and occasion.”

Cascade Origin will be available at Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor across NSW and Victoria and in Tasmanian bottle shops for RRP $30 for a six-pack or $96 for a 24-pack.
