Archie Rose has expanded its Harvest vintage series with the Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022, made with honey harvested from eight different rescue hives re-homed at its Sydney distillery.
The Archie Rose Harvest series works with local producers with a focus on sustainability and the impact of the growing, harvesting and processing methods - with past releases featuring poorman’s orange, native sunrise lime and lemon scented gum.
This release is the first time that a Harvest Gin features an ingredient grown on-site at the Archie Rose Distillery, in collaboration with The Urban Beehive who maintain the beehives to ensure the best care of the almost 640,000 bees that live in the eight distillery hives, along with Sydney’s biodiversity.
Each harvest from the beehives carries a distinct flavour that changes with the seasons, depending on the flowers the bees come in contact with. In 2022, the flavours are water gum, paperbark, clover and red bottlebrush.
Established by beekeepers Vicky Brown and Doug Purdie, The Urban Beehive is Sydney's leading beekeeping shop and urban honey supplier, aiming to protect pollinating bees within Sydney.
When distilled with paired-back botanicals, the result is a balanced gin with notes of juniper, coriander seed, Roman chamomile, orris root, and reclaimed orange peels.
To taste, there are notes of honey, glacé pineapple and green herbs with a finish of floral honey, orange sherbert, eucalypt and a touch of spearmint.
Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022 is available at the Archie Rose cellar door and retail stores, from as part of a limited 7,900 bottle release.
