Heineken has launched a new mid-strength beer which it claims has fewer calories and is lower in carbohydrates than its other varieties.

Heineken 3, unveiled in Sydney today, has been brewed in response to demand for healthier beers and is only the second beer from the brand since its original launch in Australia.

Heineken's marketing campaign for the product will roll out over the next 18 months.

Australia will also be the first market globally to launch Heineken 3.

Heineken saw growth potential in the premium mid-strength beer category, particularly among Australia's occasional beer drinkers.

Heineken 3 has 86 calories per bottle, 5g of carbs, and a 3.3% ABV.
