Wanting to fill a gap in the market, Zeffer Cider introduced a low alcohol cider in 2015. More than five years later, Zero Carbon cidery has launched its new zero alcohol alternative.
Made with Hawke’s Bay apples, naturally gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and 39 calories per can, Zeffer head cidermaker Judy Scott believes that the 0% Crisp Apple Cider’s bright, fresh apple taste and fermented character will make it a popular choice for Aussies.
“We wondered whether people would assume that cider with the alcohol removed was simply sparkling apple juice and this is not the case at all. It tastes just like a crisp apple cider as we’ve made it in the same way we would any of our ciders. We use our signature cidermaking style of using local apples and crafting from freshly crushed juice, not concentrate,” said Scott.
According to IWSR analysis, the market for zero and low alcoholic beverages has reached almost $US10 billion and is expected to continue growing by eight per cent annually until 2025. In comparison, there is a 0.07 per cent growth for all alcoholic beverages.
The NZ brand is also New Zealand’s first Zero Carbon cidery, having achieved Zero Carbon Business Operation certification with Ekos.
Zeffer CEO Josh Townsend said the company looked through the lens of Kaitiakitanga, meaning guardianship and protection, and is committed to conserving, replenishing, and safeguarding for the future.
“We continue to make sustainability a priority within our business and decision-making and focus on the areas where we can have the biggest impact,” said Townsend.
With the first batch of its cider sold at the local Farmer’s Market in New Zealand, Zeffer is now poured internationally.
Zeffer’s 0% Crisp Apple Cider is now available in a 4-pack at Coles stores nationwide. RRP $14.99.
