Alcoholic soft drink lookalike investigated

Giggling Goat, an alcoholic beverage sold in a soft drink-style clear PET plastic bottle is being investigated by Liquor and Gaming NSW.

The similarity in packaging of the wine-based beverage to soft drink, and the colour - which makes it look like a pink lemonade - was noted by Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) director of policy and research, Amy Ferguson, in a Fairfax Media report.

NSW regulations clearly state that products must not mimic or be compared to a soft drink or confectionery, she said.

Giggling Goat, which is manufactured by Cheviot Wine Group, is also being investigated by Liquor and Gaming NSW, according to Fairfax Media.

The drink is watermelon flavoured drink and it comes in a 1.25 litre plastic bottle. The label reads "8 per cent. Alcoholic drink" however the company's Facebook and Instagram pages suggest the product be mixed with a shot of vodka, according to Ferguson.
