The Australian Meat Industry Council (AMIC) has appointed Tim Ryan as its new CEO, effective 27 February. He has been acting as interim CEO since Patrick Hutchinson, announced he would be stepping down from the position on 1 November 2024, after more than seven years leading the organisation.
Ryan joined AMIC in 2022 as industry affairs general manager, and has an extensive background in the red meat industry. The company stated he has been instrumental in addressing critical issues across all sectors, including changes to animal welfare standards, advocating for retail member interests in competition inquiries, and pushing back on scope creep of dietary guidelines.
His appointment follows an extensive recruitment process conducted by AMIC, to find a leader ready to take on an evolving regulatory landscape, changing consumer expectations, technological advancements, and environmental considerations.
AMIC chair, Tom Maguire, said Ryan brings a deep understanding of the industry and a clear vision for its future to the CEO role.
“More importantly, he has the ability to unite the entire post-farmgate meat sector – an industry with $41 billion in turnover and directly employing 64,000 jobs – under the AMIC banner.
“His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to advocate for our members and strengthen the industry’s position both locally and globally.”
With AMIC representing meat processors, retailers, smallgoods manufacturers, wholesalers, and exporters, Ryan will focus on enhancing collaboration, strengthening advocacy efforts, and delivering critical services to support members.
