The chief executive officer of Asahi Beverages, David Beguely, has announced his resignation from the Australian arm of the Japanese-owned beverages giant.

Asahi Beverages spans the Schweppes soft drinks business, the ready-to-drink alcohol beverages group Independent Distillers, as well as a range of beer, cider and spirits brands.

The company, which competes with Coca-Cola Amatil in the region, combined its alcohol and non-alcohol businesses - Asahi Premium Beverages and Schweppes Group Australia - under one operating structure and leadership team last year.

At the time, Beguely, the former Schweppes Australia managing director, took the helm and Asahi Premium Beverages CEO, Greg Ellery elected to depart.

Asahi Beverages has recently reported rising sales.
