Big River Pork has announced plans for a $14 million expansion at its Murray Bridge plant in South Australia.

The project will help the company meet a new long-term supply agreement, on the back of rising consumer demand for pork.

Big River Pork's investment is being supported by the State Government through a total $900,000 grant with contributions from the Economic Investment Fund and the Regional Development Fund.

The expansion will see the creation of around 140 new jobs, bringing the workforce at the plant to 330 once the expansion is completed in 2019.

Investment and Trade Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith said the South Australian Centre for Economic Studies had estimated the expansion by Big River Pork would boost the state's gross product by $79 million over the next 10 years.
