Bundaberg Rum is constructing a new a multimillion-dollar visitors’ experience centre with interactive self-guided tours and lessons in rum blending for the public.

The project is being managed by food facilities designer Wiley, and will spread across two repurposed bond stores in Bundaberg, Queensland.

The visitors' centre aims to attract more tourists to the distillery and is slated for completion in July 2016.

Wiley marketing director Clare Mitchell said brand loyalty increasingly relied on immersive customer experiences.

“Retail is no longer just about the product,” she said. “A number of our clients are exploring how they can transform traditional customer experiences through integrating innovative design and next-generation technology.”

Wiley will construct a vat museum, cinema, alfresco dining area and retail outlet, as well as a function centre and conference rooms in the existing Queenslander.

Approximately 50 jobs will be created in the region during the construction of the project.
