Coca-Cola Amatil has bought WA company Feral Brewing as it continues to ramp up its beer offerings in the wake of its re-entry into the market three years ago.

Feral Brewing is a family owned and operated microbrewery situated in Perth's Swan Valley and has been operating for 15 years.

The purchase follows the appointment by CCA in March this year of a new team of specialists to build its long-term beer and cider growth strategy.

CCA distributes the Molson Coors brands in Australia, including Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Chill, Coors and Blue Moon, and the Boston Beer Company's Sam Adams, and it has also formed a craft beer joint venture called the Australian Beer Co with winemaking company, Casella.

“The Alcohol and Coffee business is an important part of Amatil’s future growth plans and this new relationship with Feral Brewing is a really exciting step for us in the fast-growing craft beer segment,” Group Managing Director, Alison Watkins said.

Feral founder Brendan Varis said: “Having the support and strength of Amatil behind us means we’ll be able to continue doing more of what we’re good at – brewing great beers – and less of the stuff we’re not.

“Feral will continue to be an independent craft brewery as defined by the IBA and that we look forward to continuing our association as active members and supporters as well as promoting the craft beer industry more broadly.”

It’s been a tumultuous yet progressive year in packaging in Australia, with highs and lows playing out against a backdrop of uncertainty caused in part by the dangling sword of DCCEEW’s proposed Packaging Reform, and in part by the mounting pressure of rising manufacturing costs.
