After a 35-year career in wine and nine years at Barossa Valley vineyard, Château Tanunda, Neville Rowe is stepping down from his role as chief winemaker. The brand’s current senior winemaker, Jeremy Ottawa, will be taking up the mantle.
Since joining the Château Tanunda team in 2015, Rowe has spearheaded the company’s winemaking approach to continuously improve the quality of its portfolio. His craftsmanship saw The Everest Shiraz gain consecutive 96-point ratings from Huon Hooke in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and the 100 Year Old Vines Shiraz 2018 score 97 points by wine reviewers Andrew Caillard MW and Ken Gargett.
The company stated Rowe’s expertise and passion for Château Tanunda wines have been instrumental in the accolades it has received, both locally and internationally. His next well-deserved pursuit is to unfurl the sails on his beloved yacht and spend time at sea – wherever the wind may take him.
Rowe has passed on his knowledge and skill to pave the way for the company’s current senior winemaker, Jeremy Ottawa. Joining Château Tanunda in 2020, Ottawa has continued the pedigree of the Old Vine Expressions collection and Château Tanunda’s pinnacle wine, The Everest.
Joining Ottawa is newly appointed senior winemaker, Reid Bosward. Bosward is a highly awarded and respected winemaker who has worked with producers across France, South Africa and Australia. Assistant winemaker, Patrick Long, rounds out the team, joining Château Tanunda with 28 vintages across South Australia and Western Australia under his belt.
The company stated this team of winemakers will shape the style and direction of the iconic winery into its 135th anniversary in 2025 and beyond.
