Australia is the first market to taste a new limited-edition sugar-free cola that has afternoon coffee drinkers in its cross hairs.
The new product, Coca-Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar, contains a little more caffeine than classic Coke but much less than a latte and has the “unmistakable aroma of real coffee and some subtle caramel undertones”, according to its maker, Coca-Cola South Pacific.
“Australians have a love affair with coffee so we thought why not give them more of what they want - the great taste of Coca-Cola with a dash of real coffee from Brazil,” Coca-Cola Australia spokeswoman Lisa Winn said.
Winn said the launch of the product, which will only be available over the Australian summer, follows the success last year of its Coca-Cola Ginger limited edition flavour.
“Coke Ginger was a huge success in Australia and it was inspired by the simple insight that Australians enjoy the taste of ginger drinks.
"The launch of the new Coke Plus Coffee follows a similar path to market - we know Australians love their coffee,” she said.
Coca-Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar contains 35mg of caffeine per 250mL can, compared to 24mg in a 250mL can of Classic Coca-Cola, according to its maker, which is pitching the product as an alternative to a second cup of coffee in the afternoon.
“We think it will be a great tasting afternoon pick me up - like a delicious antidote to the 3pm slump," Winn said. “We hope Australians enjoy it as a delicious sugar-free afternoon treat.”
