Two local syrup companies have announced plans to enter new markets through expansion and partnership.

Bickford’s Australia will open a $6.6-million distillery and visitor centre in South Australia on Friday.

The distillery, which received a grant from the State Government, will be the company's first, and will offer a new range of craft spirits based on gin and brandy.

Bickford's has been expanding, through partnerships and acquisitions, into alcohol since 2000. Its brands include Vok Liqueurs, Black Bottle Brandy, Beenleigh Rum, Inner Circle Rum, Galway Pipe Port, Step Road and Beresford Estate wines.

Another Australian syrup company, Alchemy Cordial, has partnered with coffee roaster Knight Mattingly to distribute its turmeric-based product in Victoria.

The Melbourne-based coffee roaster will distribute Alchemy Cordial’s new Golden Turmeric Elixir.

Food and Innovations Technologist David Chua was asked to create the blend of turmeric, ginger, pepper, cinnamon, and organic vanilla.

The syrup can be used in hot and cold beverages, particularly in cafes and restaurants, and Knight Mattingly will offer it alongside its range of coffee blends and chai tea.
