Lupreme is derived from one ingredient – Australian grown lupin – and a unique fermenting process.

Eighth Day Foods co-founder Jen Drew said, “This protein is a clean, nutritious and affordable option when compared with meat proteins, which FOFA is finding it increasingly hard to secure for meals.”

FOFA operates in the Knox and Yarra Ranges communities in Victoria, rescuing surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. The team, lead by founder and chef Lillie Giang, then transform the surplus into 600-800 nutritious meals per week for locals in need.

“Our clients are in desperate need of high quality, nutritious meals. Many are very unwell or recovering from hospitalisation, others are in respite care, or have inconsistent access to food.

“Meals from FOFA are so important - it could be the only meal our clients eat that day, so we need to make sure it’s balanced and nutritious. Having access to a super nutritious plant-based protein like Lupreme is a game changer for us,” Giang said.

The versatility of the protein is also a win for FOFA, which aims to create a diverse range of meals for different dietary and cultural needs.

“We’re feeding people's bellies and their souls – the food needs to taste amazing too. We try to vary our dishes, so clients look forward to trying their next FOFA meal,” she added.

Eighth Day Foods and FOFA also share a commitment to sustainability.

“Lupreme boasts a minimal environmental footprint, starting from its sustainable cultivation that restores soil health. The process of transforming lupin into Lupreme is carbon neutral, generating almost zero waste.

“By providing FOFA with our Lupreme plant protein, we hope to contribute to their mission of providing nutritious meals to those in need while promoting sustainability. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our community and beyond,” Drew said.
