Of course, the magazine is chock full of other features and industry insights.  CommBank’s Smart Business column this month, takes a deep dive into its latest Manufacturing Insights report, looking at emerging trends that are reshaping the dynamics of manufacturing, wholesale trade, and transport distribution. CommBank developed the series to help business leaders benchmark performance metrics and forward planning by providing data-led market intelligence. As well as looking at the manufacturing sector overall, the bank provides information and insights on the food and beverage industry.

Back in April, at APPEX 2024, Multivac’s stand was impressive to say the least. I was affectionately calling it ‘the compound’ as it occupied quite a portion of the MCEC’s footprint. Amongst its displays of the latest equipment for specific industries was our cover story. Notleys Bakery Group is part of Multivac and had what, to me, looked like a Tardis on its stand. In truth, it was an industrial washer, developed by Somengil. The machine is impressive as well as delivering greater efficiency, reduced labour, lower energy and chemical waste, and minimised water usage.

Packaging News

The World Packaging Organisation has named 234 winners for the WorldStar Packaging Awards 2026, which were selected from 481 entries submitted across 36 countries.

ACOR is calling on the Government to urgently introduce packaging reforms or risk the collapse of Australia’s plastic recycling sector and face millions of tonnes of plastic waste polluting the environment.

As 2025 draws to a close, it is clear the packaging sector has undergone one of its most consequential years in over a decade. Consolidation at the top, restructuring in the middle, and bold innovation at the edges have reshaped the industry’s horizons. At the same time, regulators, brand owners and recyclers have inched closer to a new circular operating model, even as policy clarity remains elusive.
