Kellogg has fortified cereal brand Special K with vitamin D in response to dietary recommendations.
Special K is believed to be the first breakfast cereal range in Australia to include this vitamin.
One serve of Special K Original now provides 25 per cent of a woman’s recommended daily intake of vitamin D, according to the company.
Almost one in four Australian women is understood to be lacking in vitamin D3.
Medical expert Doctor Ginni Mansberg said longer hours with shorter lunch breaks, longer commutes, and increased screen time all contributed to vitamin D deficiency, along with other social, mental and health issues.
Vitamin D is believed to be critical for functions in the heart, blood vessels, muscles, and glands, and additional vitamin D helps women absorb calcium and avoid vitamin D inadequacy.
