Australian Agtech startup, MEQ Probe says its new MEQ HQ, innovation lab and production facility in Reservoir, Victoria, will open in June. Its operations in Gundagai, New South Wales, and Brisbane, Queensland will remain.
The facility will house the company’s corporate headquarters with space to prototype and manufacture its solutions that allow for the objective measurement of red meat quality while driving sustainability across the entire red meat supply chain.
MEQ Probe will still maintain a strong base in Gundagai, NSW to support its local clients and continue in-situ testing of its devices. The company has also added a team in Brisbane to service the Queensland area.
MEQ Probe launched its first commercial products in 2020, merging proprietary advanced hardware and machine learning AI to help the red meat and livestock industry better understand the eating quality of its product.
In 2022, the company received the world’s first accreditation for a hot carcass marbling measurement technology for beef, making MEQ Probe the only official technology to accurately measure both intramuscular fat in lamb and marbling in beef.
The increasing demand for its technology from producers and feedlots, coupled with expansion of the range from the MEQ Probe to include the MEQ Camera, and MEQ Live (the first measurement tool for live animals) has prompted the investment in the new facility.
The sustainability impacts of the Live device in particular will be pushed further in the Innovation Lab. In a report from EnergyLink Services, it was found that the use of MEQ Live could lead to a reduction of 450,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
MEQ Probe says its decision to relocate to Victoria was influenced by the connectivity of Reservoir’s location to Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, as well as its close proximity to several new, key clients, including AMG, ALC, Greenhams, and Frews.
CEO of MEQ Probe, Remo Carbone said, "Our new MEQ facility marks a significant milestone in our journey to revolutionise the red meat industry. With our corporate headquarters and state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities under one roof, we are poised to deliver the most innovative solutions on the market to our growing client base.
“This move not only streamlines our operations but also enables us to really champion local, advanced hardware manufacturing and showcase what Australian talent and expertise are really capable of. We are excited to open our doors, and take our mission to objectively measure red meat quality to new heights," said Carbone.
