PepsiCo is shutting its Smith’s chips factory in Canning Vale, Western Australia in the second half next year.

The move will see the loss of 300 jobs and affect WA potato farmers, but not PepsiCo's other Australian Smith's facilities.

The Cadbury visitor centre at Mondelez's chocolate plant in Claremont, Hobart, will also shut up shop on 18 December as a result of declining visitor numbers.

The facility is Mondelez's biggest manufacturing operation in Australia and the centre included a factory presentation, shop and small cafe, according to ABC Online. The popular factory tours, however, ceased in 2008.

Cadbury manufacturer Mondelez International says it will instead focus on its core manufacturing operation in a bid to make it more globally competitive and sustainable.

The company recently withdraw its application for $16 million in federal funding, which was pledged ahead of the 2013 election, because meeting the grant criteria required a commitment to significantly increase the amount of chocolate made at the site by attracting a sizeable export business.

Lion has also announced that it will not be renewing the lease for its Little Creatures Dining Hall in Fitzroy, Victoria, and instead focus on the development of its Little Creatures Brewery Village and new White Rabbit Brewery in Geelong.

The Dining Hall will remain open for the rest of this year and over summer, before officially closing its doors on 1 February 2016.

Lion Craft director Gordon Treanor said the decision came following a comprehensive review of Little Creatures’ national marketing and hospitality strategy.

“Little Creatures is a brewer first and foremost," Treanor said.

"While the Little Creatures Dining Hall has without a doubt contributed to the brand’s growth in Victoria since it opened eight years ago, we believe venues attached to our breweries have the most promise for future growth, as we have seen at our iconic Fremantle venue in Perth, which now welcomes more than one million visitors a year."
