Fans of Devondale UHT thickened cream have taken to social media to protest Murray Goulburn's (MG) decision to discontinue the product.

MG told Rural Weekly that the company was looking to simplify its product range, that the decision was made based on a number of factors, and that it apologised for any inconvenience this may have caused.

"We appreciate your feedback and wish to advise that your comments have been passed to the relevant department,” the company said in a statement.

“Devondale Murray Goulburn would like to assure you that satisfaction of our customers is very important to us and that a wide range of Devondale Dairy Products are available at major retailers across Australia.”

The news follows the release of MGs interim results last week. The dairy company, which is in the midst of a takeover by Canadian dairy company Saputo, reported a net loss after tax of $27.5 million and its milk supply was down almost 30 per cent on the previous year.
