Premium meal delivery company, Providoor, has secured a new investor and is re-launching in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Melbourne-based chef, Shane Delia, launched the business during the early stages of the pandemic in 2020.
In its first 12 months of business, Providoor drove more than $40 million in revenue into the industry, and delivered more than half a million meals, with 70 per cent of customers able to try a ‘popular’ restaurant for the first time through the service.
Entrepreneur and businessman, Sam Benjamin, founder and MD of Sydney’s Seventh Street Ventures, acquired the brand in April 2023. Benjamin is also behind Rolling Stone, Brag Media, and gourmet food test-platform, Kaspa, and said he wants to pick up where Delia left off.
“The way food is prepared has not really changed for thousands of years. We have worked with famous chefs and leading food technologists to disrupt this model and have developed processes that allow us to prepare, store and finish restaurant quality food.
“Over the last three years we have invested time and resources researching, testing, tasting, sourcing, preparing and then re-testing and making high quality food with speed and service through our test-platform, Kaspa, and from that we have assembled a highly experienced team from all over the world – operations and culinary – all committed to the next version of Providoor,” said Benjamin.
Re-launching 23 October, Matt Preston, Silvia Colloca, Anna Polyviou, Luke Nguyen, Gary Mehigan, Manu Feildel, Justin Narayan, George Calombaris, have been named as participating chefs.
Providoor Frozen and Providoor Local will provide restaurant-quality meals from a range of different cuisines that can be delivered in one order direct to homes, including Silvia Colloca's Lasagna or Diavola Pizza; Gary Mehigan's Moroccan Lamb Tagine; Matt Preston’s Mushroom Burger; Manu Feildel's Coq au Vin; Justin Narayan's Taco Family Kits, and Anna Polyviou's White Chocolate Cheesecake with Strawberry Basil Salad.
Menus have been curated by restaurant chefs and food personalities, with the meals pre-prepared in the new Providoor kitchens located throughout Sydney in Homebush, Five Dock, Neutral Bay and Moore Park with further kitchens to open in Sydney as well as in Melbourne and Brisbane in the near future.
“I was an initial customer and loved the original concept of Providoor. It offered a connection for at-home diners to top chefs and restaurants who don’t want to cook but want elevated at-home dining. The demand is there and we are ready to meet it,” said Benjamin.
Providoor Frozen orders can be made online via Providoor’s website. In Sydney, orders taken by midday will be ready for next day delivery, and orders in Melbourne and Brisbane will be delivered twice a week with a three day lead time.
