With the rising popularity of ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages in Australia, innovation is the key to breaking into the market. Reality TV personality, Aesha Scott, has partnered with Melbourne-based craft brewery, Moon Dog, to jump on this trend, with the launch of Drop Alcoholic Coconut Water & Vodka.

Combining the natural hydration of coconut water sourced from Vietnam with a smooth hit of vodka and a hint of fizz, Drop aims to offer an ultra-light, easy-drinking alternative to traditional seltzers and canned cocktails.

First launched into select First Choice Liquor Markets in July 2024, the 3.7% ABV coconut flavoured RTD has since expanded into over 250 Dan Murphy’s stores around Australia.

Scott told F&DB that when Moon Dog reached out to her about the potential of partnering on a product, something she had always dreamed of doing.

“Partnering with Moon Dog to bring Drop to life was a no-brainer – these guys know how to push boundaries, and we had an absolute blast creating a drink that stands out in a crowded market,” she said.

"The Moon Dog team really understood my vision from day one – something that's better for you, still tastes great, and doesn’t feel like a compromise. It’s not just a drink, it’s something you actually want to reach for, whether you’re out with friends or chilling at home.”

With health-conscious and flavour-forward drinkers looking for lighter, more refreshing alternatives, Scott said she wanted to create something that felt effortlessly enjoyable.

“I’ve spent years traveling the world and experiencing different takes on your traditional seltzer, and I wanted to create something that felt like a moment of pause – being content with wherever you are and whoever you might be with,” she said.

“This has been such a passion project. We went back and forth a lot on flavour and fizz until we landed on something I genuinely love drinking.”

Scott worked closely with Moon Dog's product development team to land on the perfect coconut flavour and the right level of fizz, which for this product is minimal. The company said she wanted to create a product that resonated with those who love coconut water or are just looking for a new and refreshing alcoholic drink.

The product branding process was led by Scott, who said the name Drop “just felt right for this project”, working alongside Moon Dog's design team to bring her vision to life on the can.

Scott told F&DB that this was just the beginning for Drop, and flavoured variations are definitely something on the horizon.

“We've seen consumers really love the product and it's something a lot of people have never seen before which is always exciting,” she said.

“We’ve got big plans. Honestly, if there’s a flavour our consumers are dying to try, we will. I’m all ears and totally up for experimenting. If it sounds good, I’ll probably want to drink it too!”

Drop Alcoholic Coconut Water & Vodka in Original and Peach is available online at shop.moondog.com.au and at select First Choice Liquor and Dan Murphy’s stores for RRP $23.99 in a four-pack or $139.99 in a case of 24.
