Rhubi’s Mistelle, described as ‘a fresh take on the forgotten French aperitif’ and made from rhubarb, juniper, and citrus, has won silver at the International Wine & Spirit Competition.

Mistelle is often made in Normandy using apples or grapes, however Rhubi is made in Victoria from Australian rhubarb, and paired with juniper spirit, gentian, grapefruit and mandarin skins.

Rhubi Co-Founder Evan Stroeve said the Mistelle was blind tasted at the competition, with only soda water as a mixer.

“We are very happy to be taking home the silver medal in the mixing category.

“The judges blind tasting the liquid simply mixed with soda water just confirms the serve strategy of Rhubi - that it’s a well balanced product which just needs to be served with soda water for the perfect spritz,” said Stroeve.

Stroeve said the brand had big plans for 2023.

“Rhubi started out as a passion project, and it’s now proven it has got some commercial legs. It is stocked in over 400 bars in Australia and there is a demand outside of our national borders, we’re excited to see where this takes us”.
